NEW ORLEANS, LA - The Iona College men's cross country team moved up two spots to No. 2 on the final regular-season coaches? poll conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Gaels compete at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship this Saturday in Louisville, KY.
Last Friday, the Gaels claimed a convincing victory at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championship, their eighth regional title in program history. Since the meet began in 1997, Iona has won more championships than any other team in the region. The Maroon & Gold's seven previous NCAA Northeast Regional Championships came in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Oklahoma State retained the top spot on the poll. The Gaels tied with Stanford and are ahead of Wisconsin, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, BYU, Portland and Northern Arizona in the Top 10.
Louisville will host the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park. The women?s race is slated to begin at Noon ET, followed by the men?s at 1:15 pm ET. A live webcast of the championships will be broadcast on NCAA.com.
